Rhineland Palatinate

MAINZ

In Mainz, more than 2,300 children from eight institutions took part in the collection this year, showing great commitment. This resulted in 22,550 green mobility miles, 892 red miles for climate protection on the plate and 512 blue miles for energy-saving campaigns – an impressive result, thank you to everyone who took part!

The fact that the city offered introductory events in some classes this year paid off and is reflected in the great activity reports, beautiful mileage posters and numerous wish lists that were sent to the city by the institutions.

The grand finale was the handover of the collected children's miles to the Head of the Environment and Transport Department on Agenda Day and World Children's Day.

There, the Brunnenschule school, for example, not only presented its 2,354 miles, but also many demands and ideas for politicians, including wishes for better public transport, more rubbish bins, fewer cigarette butts and other litter on pavements and playgrounds, and less pollution in general, but also fewer weapons.

At Mainz Laubenheim Primary School, the children have been busy cutting out and labelling footprints. These feature simple calls to action, such as eating less meat or driving less often.

But there are also specific demands on local and national political actors, such as planting trees or forests, reducing private transport and making footpaths safer, as well as promoting solar panels and electric cars, reducing plastic waste and producing sustainable products.
